Hero Wars ProgramThe Hero Wars Program is a fan produced computer based implementation of the Hero Wars rules from the synopsis. Charles Corrigan has created a Yahoo! Group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HeroWarsProgram where you can find the latest version and discuss the usage of the program.The Hero Wars Program can be used either standalone or with a narrator and one or more players across the internet but it is not a MUD (Multi User Dungeon) that automatically runs scenarios. The program also supports the creation and storage of hero and opponent character sheets, including creation from keywords. A pre-built keyword file for the Heortlings from the original Hero Wars: Roleplaying in Glorantha book is available.
Charles has been developing the program for the past six months and tells us that it is nearly complete. He is looking for further testers and ideally some people willing to help write user documentation. The Hero Wars Program requires the installation of Java 1.3 on your computer. Java 1.3 is a 5Mb download and can be obtained from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/jre/ for Microsoft Windows, Linux x86 and Sun Solaris. Please note that the version of Java that comes with Microsoft Explorer or Netscape Navigator (4.x and older) is too limited and outdated to run the program. For Macintosh users, the Hero Wars Program will run under Mac OS X, but can't run under earlier versions. |
