Malkioni sorcery

The Malkioni venerate the Invisible God who created the Runes, worshiped as gods by the barbarians. The Runes in turn, created lesser versions of themselves, often in combination with other Runes. One of these lesser creations, Malkion the Founder, revealed the laws of the Invisible God to men. This abstract Invisible God gives little if any direct magic to its worshippers, but knowledge of the divine laws give Wizards the power to define and manipulate the rest of the world, and turn it into raw materials for their cosmic alembic.

Art and Culture and a fantasy world

I'm posting this as a discussion piece, and a lot of this is in shorthand that makes sense to the writing and artistic group, and possibly is total nonsense outside of that discussion. But I figured I'd let other people into the discussion even if it is total nonsense.

Making the Lunar Empire Map for the Guide

Maps are a big part of the Guide to Glorantha. All of the Middle World will have lovely color maps, and all of Central and Western Genertela will have extremely detailed maps at a scale roughly 1 inch to 30 miles.

Theyalan Art Direction

There's quite a bit of different Orlanthi art styles presented in the Guide (including Esrolian temple paintings, Sartarite coins, Vesmonstran enamels, and so on). They look much less "Viking" or "pseudo-Celtic" than previous books have presented, and much more late Bronze/early Iron Age.

Seshnela Art Direction

The Guide to Glorantha will feature in-depth treatment of the Malkioni (along with the other major cultures of Glorantha). Here's the art direction for one of the pictures in the Guide: the Crowning of King Bailifes:

Life and how we live it.

One of our most recent updates to the website has been our addition of forums for discussing all things Glorantha and Moon Design. Like all changes, they can be seen as a good thing by some, and a bad thing by others. I was recently asked about "why forums on your site" and here is how I responded.  I only wish I had also remembered to thank Charles Corrigan personally for all of his help and hard work in launching our new forums.

Heracles by another name

People tend to underestimate the extent to which cults "travel". In Glorantha, the god Orlanth can be found from Prax to the outskirts of Loskalm, and even on the southern continent of Pamaltela. In the forthcoming Guide to Glorantha, the cult is referred as that of "Orlanth" even if the locals call it something entirely different.

But rather than talk about Gloranthan cults, I'd like to just show the movement of one god we probably all know as he traveled from Greece to Japan.

The Look of Glorantha: Hsunchen

As part of the process of commissioning art for the Guide to Glorantha, we put together overviews and descriptions for each image. It has been pointed out to me that you might be interested in these description, so here's one for a picture of two Hsunchen that has been commissioned for the Guide. I'll post the sketches once they come in to show the development.

The Look of Gloranthan Cultures, part 3

One of the many things I am excited about regarding the forthcoming Guide to Glorantha is the art. We will be spending more on art and maps than on any previous Moon Design book, and Greg, Dan Barker, and I have spent a LOT of time pondering the look of various cultures for this book. We commissioned several superb fantasy artists to work on this book and I am pretty certain people will be very impressed by the results.
